Suntory's Hakushu is the less hyped, less in demand younger brother to Yamazaki, it just doesn't seem to get the love and recognition of that whisky. But Ken of course did and shares the experience with us here. The Hakushu line stands among other top selling Suntory products including favorites such as the Yamazaki and Hibiki. I wouldn’t rate all Japanese whisky so highly (even the coveted age-statement bottlings; Yamazaki 12 is about a 6/10 for me; Hibiki 21 also a 6/10), but I truly believe these are both special drams. The distillery, which was built in 1973 and is set amidst spectacular pine forests close to Japanese Alps. Great examples of what all the fuss was about, before hype and FOMO went into overdrive.
